“ My life has been a fairy tale and I am without a doubt the luckiest Golf Professional in the world”. BobBob Bourne grew up in Oberlin, Ohio, a small college town west of Cleveland.
After graduating from Oberlin High School in 1962, Bob went to the University of Houston, and played his way on to the golf team. At the time Houston was the dominat college golf team. It had already won 14 national championships and Bob knew this was the place for him to play with the best and also get a degree.
In 1967 Bob received his degree and came back to Ohio to teach school. Three years of teaching convinced Bob that public school teaching wasn’t for him and he decided to pursue his dream and play the PGA Tour.
A friend gave Bob two credit cards to use to pursue the PGA tosur. Bob went to Florida to work on his game and get ready for the Tour Qualifier in the fall. Qualifying for the tour and playing for three years was a dream fulfilled. Bob was one of the best golfers in the world, but not the best--Jack Nicklaus was better!!
Bob decided to continue his career as a club professional and became a member of the PGA of America in1975. His First stop after the tour was Lancaster C. C. in Lancaster, PA as their first assistant. Two great years at LCC and then Bob went to storied Canterbury Country Club in Cleveland and that led to 15 very special years at Beechmont C.C. in Cleveland.
Bob is one of only twelve PGA Master Professionals in Ohio and is a Titleist Performance Institute certified instructor.
When Beechmont ended in 1989 Bob helped Jack Nicklaus and his design team develop two new courses in Northern Ohio-Barrington in Aurora and Glenmoor in Canton. Next stop was Florida for 7 years and then back to Cleveland in 1997 at StoneWater Golf Club in Highland Hts as Director of Instruction.
“Bob's students think they are the luckiest students in the world to have Bob as their Pro.
